Straighten Your Teeth, Strengthen Your Smile

Boy with bracesAn orthodontist is a dental specialist who works with those who have misaligned teeth, TMJ, and other issues. In addition to creating more polished smiles, treatments like Invisalign and braces can resolve tooth and jaw alignment problems.

It’s a good idea to take your child to see an orthodontist at around the age of 7. This is only a rule of thumb, and for your child’s specific case, your dentist will tell you the correct time for a first orthodontist visit. Seeing the orthodontist early on will help put a plan into action that can prevent serious treatments down the road.

Generally speaking, there are two options for straighter teeth:

Invisalign: This invisible treatment is more flexible than braces and typically involves shorter treatment times. This is a process that requires a great deal of self-discipline, so it is typically used for adults only. Learn more.

Braces:  This treatment is common among children who are 9-14 years old. Typical treatment time lasts 1-2 years, but it does vary.
